The Borough of Paxtang proudly presents our 1st Annual Independence Day Parade!

Join your friends and neighbors to celebrate America’s Birthday!

WHAT? The Borough is sponsoring a home-town parade to enjoy with your family, neighbors, and friends. After the parade, there will be a few short speeches - including a reading of the Declaration of Independence! and light refreshments in the Borough gym.

WHEN? Monday, July 4, 2011 at 10 a.m.

WHO? All are welcome to participate! The categories will include: individuals, groups (friends, scouts, sports teams, etc.), military personnel - veterans and active members, bicycles, pets, motorized vehicles, businesses, and bands.

WHERE? The parade will form starting at 9:30 am on 30th Street between Derry Street and Brisban Street.

HOW? Fill out the registration form and email to paxtangparade@gmail.com or in person on Thursdays June 2 and 16 (from 6-8 pm) and on Saturday June 18 (10 am-noon) in front of Mama's Pizza, 3412 Derry Street. Then come to the parade formation area at 30th and Derry Streets between 9:30 and 9:50 am on Monday July 4. REGISTER AT THIS LINK http://www2.paxtang.com/?q=node/1

Need an idea? You do NOT need an elaborate costume to participate! This is a fun, home-town parade and just about anything will do! Dress in colonial garb, decorate your bike (or your dog!), make and carry a banner, play an instrument, dress as an eagle, a donkey, an elephant, wear red, white and blue...use your creativity to show your patriotic spirit!


THE PARADE ROUTE This will be a home-town celebration and the route will wind through some of our neighborhoods. The parade will form at 30th & Brisban Streets at 9:30 am. At 10 am, it will travel east on Derry Street to Wilhelm Road, then north on Wilhelm Road to Montour Street, then west on Montour Street to Paxtang Avenue, then south on Paxtang Avenue to Derry Street, and finally west on Derry Street, ending at the Municipal Building.

Do You Live along the Parade Route? Show your patriotic and community spirit! Decorate your house with flags, streamers, banners, signs and all things patriotic!

Can’t march in the parade but still want to participate? Donations to support the event can be sent to: Paxtang Historical Society 3423 Derry St Harrisburg, PA 17111. FAQ

1. Is there a rain date? No. There will be NO RAIN DATE for inclement weather. If the parade is ON, the fire siren will sound at 9:30 am. If there is no siren, there is no parade.

2. I want to bring my dog - what do I need to know? First, there is a leash law in Paxtang. Your pet must be on a leash and under your control. There will be volunteers along the route who will provide watering stations for your dogs so they can get a drink. Please carry some plastic bags so you can pick up after your dog if necessary.

3 Are there prizes? At this time, there are no prizes for parade participants. There may be prizes if we get donations from individuals and businesses. You can check back here from time to time to see if there are any changes.

4. Will there be road closures? Yes. Expect roads to be closed by 9:30 am. There will be fire police at the road closures to direct you. Roads will open up as soon as possible. We regret the inconvenience, but must maintain safety for the parade participants.
