National Night Out, 'America's Night Out Against Crime,' was started in 1984 by the Executive Director of the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) Matt A. Peskin as a way to increase awareness and strengthen local anti-crime efforts. While some efforts were already in place, including “crime watch” communities, Peskin felt that participation was low and wanted a way to increase the number of citizens involved in their community's efforts. Today in Paxtang, a traditional National Night Out activity is the neighborhood block party. This type of event brings residents together, and strengthens neighborhoods and the community by deepening relationships among neighbors.

If you are interested in planning a block party for your neighborhood but would like more information, please call the Borough Office at 564-4770.

PLEASE TAKE NOTEIf you would like a temporary street closure in association with your neighborhood block party, you must receive approval from Borough Council prior to the event. So if you are planning a block party/street closure for National Night Out on August 7, you must contact the Borough Office prior to the Borough Council meeting on July 17, 2007.
